Sober September
Could you go alcohol-free this September and raise money for APS Support UK?
September can feel like a fresh start. With summer coming to an end and the beginning of a new school year and season, it can be a great time to set yourself a new challenge.
If you’re taking part in Sober September, why not use your challenge to raise vital funds for APS Support UK at the same time?
Ask friends, family and colleagues to sponsor you to go alcohol-free for the month, share your progress along the way and tell people why you’ve chosen to support APS Support UK.
Every donation helps us continue our work supporting people affected by antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), raising awareness of the condition and helping to fund research.
Why take part?
Taking a break from alcohol can be a positive challenge for your health and wellbeing too.
According to the NHS, cutting down on alcohol can have benefits including:
- feeling more energetic and less tired
- improved sleep
- improved mood
- help with weight management
- saving money
Reducing alcohol consumption can also help lower the risk of health problems associated with drinking too much.
A note if you take warfarin
If you have APS and take warfarin, alcohol can interact with your medication and affect your INR.
APS Support UK advises people taking warfarin to keep their alcohol intake as consistent as possible. A significant change in how much alcohol you drink may affect your INR, so please speak to your doctor or anticoagulation clinic before making a major change to your usual alcohol intake.
You can find out more on our APS and diet page.
Fundraise for us
Get in touch with us if you are thinking of doing your own fundraising. We have our own JustGiving webpage where you can set up your own personalised fundraising site for free and/or we can send you sponsorship forms if you require, plus as many leaflets as you want.
Taking part in Sober September? We’d love to hear from you and cheer you on!
